Lake, Michigan
A backcountry campground where the trees are tall, the nights are quiet, and the only alarm is the morning loon.
About Us
White Pines Backcountry Campground sits where the Michigan woods grow dense and the cell service grows thin — by design. We're a family-run campground on the shores of Lake, offering a genuine backcountry experience for people who camp to disconnect, not to check boxes.
Whether you're hauling a tent up a wooded trail or rolling in with a full-size RV, you'll find a site that feels like it was placed there, not carved out. No shared walls. No crowded loops. Just pines, privacy, and the kind of silence that makes you remember what quiet sounds like.

Accommodations
Tent Sites
Buried under a canopy of white pine and hemlock. Each site is spaced for privacy, with a fire ring, bear locker, and a clearing just big enough for your tent and your thoughts.
RV Sites
Full hookups — power, water, and a septic dump — tucked into the trees. Sites accommodate up to 35-foot rigs. Pull through or back-in; both work on our gravel pads.
Rustic Cabins
Hand-hewn log cabins with wood stoves, twin beds, and a porch that faces the water. No TV. No Wi-Fi. A coffee percolator, a cast-iron skillet, and a view worth waking up for.
The Land
White Pines sits on over a hundred acres of mixed hardwood and old-growth white pine, with a private stretch of lakefront that most campers in the area will never see. The trails are yours to wander — some loop back through the campground, others disappear into territory that hasn't been mapped by anyone since the 1800s.
Fish for smallmouth bass from the shore. Paddle the lake at dawn when the mist hasn't burned off. Sit by the fire and watch the sky go from blue to black to something you don't have a word for. This is the part of Michigan that hasn't been developed into something else.
Hiking Trails
12+ miles of marked and unmarked trails through old-growth forest.
Lake Access
Private shoreline with canoe launch and swim-friendly cove.
Wildlife
Deer, loons, foxes, and occasional black bear — all native and unmolested.
Open Season
Late May through early October. Off-season reservations available by arrangement.
Guest Words
"We've been camping in Michigan for twenty years and this is the first place where I actually turned off my phone and forgot to turn it back on. The pines are enormous. The lake is silent. We came for three nights and stayed five."
— M. Torres, Ann Arbor
"The cabin was exactly what I hoped for and didn't know I needed. Woke up to a loon calling off the dock. My kids haven't stopped talking about the 'house in the trees.' We're coming back next July."
— D. Nakamura, Grand Rapids
